I am going to be traveling to the Northern Midwest again.  This time to help navigate care for an aging aunt who now needs custodial assistance  The options for elderly who need this type of care are bleak, and it all costs money. I recently spoke to a friend from Italy.  She said that theContinue reading “February 6, 2023”

I visited Hood Mountain Regional Park today.  It was the last bike-allowing Sonoma County park that I hadn’t yet explored.  I at least hadn’t explored the bike trails.  I did however climb to the top of Gunsight Rock once from where I could actually see the Golden Gate Bridge. I am sad to report thatContinue reading “January 31, 2023”

Today is the first day in months that we’ve been able to turn off the heat and open the windows.  How lovely the start of spring is, especially after such torrential rains. The world it seems, is in a sorry state of affairs.  It always is on some level, but lately things look especially grim. Continue reading “January 23, 2023”

I just watched and would highly recommend the new film Argentina, 1985.  The film relates the Trial of the Juntas, where Argentinian military leaders were tried by a civilian court.  The trial dealt with human rights crimes that took place between 1976 and 1983. Yesterday Democracy Now hosted an interview with the movie’s director, SantiagoContinue reading “January 14, 2023”

January 3, 2023

Like so many others, I’ve been distracted over the holidays.  Overall, they’ve been wonderful distractions – even though some involved family.  Families (like Christmas) come with fun and love but they also come with trials.  In any event, I’m glad the holidays are over.  And overall, I must say, that for the most part, IContinue reading “January 3, 2023”

December 12, 2022

I went to a Christmas party last night, hosted by a neighbor in my condo complex.  Many other neighbors joined in the revelry and I began thinking of the joys of living in a condo, or at least this condo.  I have friends who own houses, and aside from the headaches of maintaining houses, severalContinue reading “December 12, 2022”

Nomad the cat has now come over for five days in a row!  He even started graciously eating the treats that I offer.  In addition, today he actually let me pet him!  He stood still while I stroked him and he even gave me a head bump!  I think he is starting to feel comfortableContinue reading “December 8, 2022”

Nomad the cat has returned to my home.  I almost adopted this stray cat named Nomad.  He used to come to my house every day.  He was not an affectionate cat, but he at times would acknowledge me with a head bump.  He was calm, muscular, and curious.  I took him to the vet forContinue reading “December 7, 2022”

November 29, 2022

I have had a glorious two weeks in the Wisconsin northern woods.  The weather for the most part has been warm (into the 40s and 50s) and sunny, and my knee has been able to tolerate longer and longer hikes. Before leaving California, I had an ozone injection into my knee.   Without known adverse sideContinue reading “November 29, 2022”

November 27, 2022

On this Thanksgiving I have much to be grateful for.  For one thing, I have returned to the rural Midwestern home of my birth.  I am celebrating the holiday with a large extended family in traditional Thanksgiving stye.  I am also able to experience the stunning beauty of November in the North Woods.  Alas, IContinue reading “November 27, 2022”
